Alcohol

Although alcohol plays an important social role in many cultures, it can be dangerous if misused. For those who choose to drink, we offer the following tools to help you manage your relationship with alcohol.

Alcohol Skills Training Program

This interactive group presentation provides education on how alcohol affects your body and skills for minimizing the harmful effects of drinking. Request a well-being program.

BASICS and iCHAMP

Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) and Individualized College Health for Alcohol and Marijuana Project (iCHAMP) are designed to help you understand your alcohol or cannabis use and to reduce risky behaviors and harmful consequences. If you have been referred to this service due to a conduct violation or medical follow up, you will receive a referral within the MU Connect system.

Brief Substance Use Consultation

Explore your use habits and consider both benefits and challenges associated with use. If you decide you would like to make some changes, we can help you set realistic goals and work toward them. Schedule an appointment with a BASICS coordinator in MU Connect or call our office at 573-882-4634.

Behavioral health screening

The behavioral health screening offers symptom screening for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, substance use disorders and a general well-being screening. Information about resources is offered based on your responses.

Learn on your own

We offer on-demand information about many aspects of well-being. Look for the alcohol module in Canvas (login required).

Party Safe

We all need to have fun and blow off steam from time to time. If you are hosting a gathering of friends, check out Party Safe, a short online training to learn ways to keep your party as safe as possible, especially if you will be consuming alcohol or other drugs.

STRIPES

The STRIPES safe ride program by the Missouri Students Association (MSA) is reinstated as a partnership with Uber for Business. Undergraduate and graduate students who pay the Student Activity Fee receive $10 per month to use on up to 2 trips from downtown Columbia to their residence.
