Education & Outreach

Creating an environment that fosters well-being and abundance is part of the core mission of Student Health and Well-being. We strive to empower students to live their best lives through education and prevention efforts. We are happy to work with campus partners, including student leaders and organizations, to create and deliver programs designed to enhance well-being, increase mental health literacy and reduce stigma.

You can request programs from the Counseling Center, Student Health Center and the Wellness Resource Center. The Wellness Resource Center coordinates Outreach and Education initiatives for the unit, and programs are delivered by appropriate staff from all three centers.

About the The Wellness Resource Center

The Wellness Resource Center fosters acceptance and a sense of purpose through intentional collaboration and education. Our work empowers all students in our community to thrive. We use a comprehensive, campus wide, public health model to enrich well-being for individuals, communities, campus and our larger community. We use a wide range of strategies to share information, support students in thinking critically about their habits and choices, challenge perceptions, and provide students with skills to live their best life.

Our Approach

Our work at the Wellness Resource Center is informed by best practices from Public Health, Health Promotion and Psychology. We use a socio-ecological model to address concerns at the individual, community and environmental levels. Because research has shown that scare tactics and shame are ineffective motivators for change, we work from a harm reduction model. Our work focuses on building strengths and skills to help students thrive and make healthy choices for their sexual, physical and mental health, including choices about alcohol, nicotine, cannabis and other drugs. We foster a community of care and an environment where students are able to engage in positive health behaviors, make responsible choices, and feel safe and connected at Mizzou.

The Wellness Resource Center is certified as a Targeted Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Program by the Missouri Department of Mental Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
