Questions For Your Insurance Company

Know Your Insurance Before You Visit

There may be charges associated with visiting us, but the cost depends on your care and insurance plan. Before you head to the Student Health Center, it’s smart to understand your insurance plan. Here are 5 key questions to ask your insurance company.

Ask Your Insurance Company These 5 Questions

  1. Checkmark

    Am I covered?

Call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about University Physicians being in-network, or covered by your insurance. You may be asked to provide our Tax ID, #900294051,or our National Provider ID, #1639291263. If your insurance has difficulty finding University Physicians or Curators of the University of Missouri, call us at 573-882-7481.

Tip: Some companies offer online portals or apps where you can explore your in-network options.

  2. Checkmark

Can I change my coverage while at Mizzou?

If your plan doesn’t provide coverage in the Columbia area, explore ”away from home care” or “guest membership” options. Some insurance companies allow a temporary change of coverage for a student attending college.

  3. Checkmark

    Do I have out-of-network benefits?

Out-of-network benefits pay at a lower rate, potentially resulting in higher out-of-pocket costs, but this does not prevent you from receiving care.

  4. Checkmark

    What is my deductible?

You may need to be prepared to pay a certain amount out of pocket before your insurance starts covering costs.

  5. Checkmark

What is my coverage after I have met my deductible and paid my co-pay amounts?

Many insurance plans require you to pay a portion of the cost for each visit.
