Drug-free schools and colleges annual notification

As a requirement of the Drug-Free Schools and Colleges Act of 1989, the University of Missouri must disseminate policies and information regarding alcohol and drug use to all students, staff, and faculty on an annual basis.

Alcohol

The use or possession of any alcoholic beverage is prohibited on all university property, except in the president’s residence, the chancellors’ residences, in athletics venues, and during concerts, lectures and sporting events. Learn more about UM System policies regarding alcohol.

Cannabis

Consistent with federal law, the University of Missouri prohibits the possession, use, distribution, dispensation, sale or manufacture of marijuana on university property, university-leased property or as part of University sponsored or university-supervised activities. Cannabis/marijuana use, distribution, possession violates campus policies. As a state university, MU receives federal grants and funds; therefore, campus policy aligns with federal laws and prohibits use, distribution, and possession of cannabis on its property. Tobacco

Use of nicotine products on campus is a violation of the Tobacco Free Mizzou policy. Learn more about tobacco-free Mizzou at tobaccofree.missouri.edu.

Missouri Good Samaritan Law (RSMO 195.205)

Under this law, the person who actively seeks emergency medical help in the instance of an overdose (or other medical emergency) and the person experiencing the medical emergency will be protected from minor drug and alcohol violations.

What does immunity cover?

  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of paraphernalia
  • Keeping or maintaining a public nuisance
  • Alcohol sale to a minor
  • Possession of an altered ID
  • Purchase or possession of alcohol by a minor
  • Violating a restraining order
  • Violating probation

What is not covered

  • Outstanding warrants
  • “[A]n offense other than an offense under subsection 2 of this section, whether the offense arises from the same circumstances as the seeking of medical assistance.”
